Capture: Advanced optical domes capture daylight using proprietary rooftop technologies that harvest low-angle morning, afternoon, and winter daylight to increase light output.

Transfer: Unique optical materials are used to create modular, configurable tubular light guide systems that effectively duct daylight between rooftop collectors and interior diffusers. Solatube’s proprietary cool tube technology filters out heat-causing infrared wavelengths to minimize daytime solar gains while maximizing light transfer. Achieving groundbreaking surface reflectivity, this technology allows light transfer to occur over long and convoluted pathways, enabling daylight to be transferred between multiple floors of a building.

Delivery: Unique optical diffusers and daylight fixtures are used to carefully distribute the transferred light into interior spaces, allowing daylight to provide radiant daytime illumination without the need for electricity. These specially designed optical lenses evenly distribute daylight throughout the area with low glare and high visual comfort and provide a strong occupant connection to nature.

At Solatube International, we intentionally design our daylighting systems using passive optical technology in order to significantly reduce system costs and maintenance. We’ve also spent the last 20 years perfecting this technology to ensure that our Solatube Daylighting Systems perform better than other tubular daylighting devices on the market. Unlike Solatube Daylighting Systems, active daylighting systems rely on moving parts to achieve the promised performance. But a multitude of things can and do go wrong. Components break, switches stop working, and electrical outages significantly reduce system effectiveness. Active systems also don’t work well on cloudy days, rendering them practically useless until the sun reappears. As an example, we engineered our patented Raybender® Technology to work optimally from any solar angle. As a result, it controls sunlight more effectively than systems with active sun tracking technology. The same goes for our proprietary Spectralight Infinity Tubing. It has no moving parts and yet it transfers daylight more efficiently and delivers better color rendition than active systems due to the nature of its composition.
